Gemsquash has created and designed an exquisite
range of unique babies’ linen, which is exceptional
in quality and design. We use only the purest fabrics
and yarns, 100% cottons, 200 -240 thread count percale
cotton and bamboo yarn. We pride ourselves that
each product is hand-made with love and care.

Our Products
Gemsquash offers a full range of babies linen.
All components used for the linen are sourced with
the health and safety of babies and children in
mind, hence the pure cotton and natural bamboo,
even down to the nickel-free press studs used in
the baby duvet cover.

The bamboo blankets are by far the most exceptional
baby blanket on the market today. These exquisitely
soft blankets are the latest addition to the Gemsquash
range.
The blankets are available in various colours and
are a must-have item to pass down as a family heirloom.
Bamboo is unique and special because it is organic,
hypoallergenic, 100% bio-degradable, naturally anti-bacterial
and 60% more absorbent than cotton. Bamboo also
has a cooling effect on the skin, it is machine
washable (in cold water of course) and no pesticides
are required on bamboo crops, which mean the crops
are never sprayed.
Gemsquash products are all handcrafted. This means
that every piece of linen you receive is completely
unique in it’s design. The appliqués are lovingly
crocheted by hand using bamboo yarn, and as much
as we try to keep each appliqué consistent, there
may be slight variations. This adds to the appeal
of the product, not only from an aesthetic point
of view, but from a quality perspective. We do not
mass produce our linen, and work closely with small
manufacturing workshops, so we can closely monitor
the quality of each item of linen which is produced. |
The Company
The idea for Gemsquash came about eight years ago,
when during my pregnancy with my first child, I
could not source the linen and accessories I wanted
to decorate my child’s nursery. Gemma was born in
October 2000, and months thereafter Gemsquash was
born. The name “Gemsquash” was derived from her
name, as she was fondly nicknamed “Gemsquash”.
Since it’s inception in 2000, Gemsquash has been
on a quest to produce a range that is unique in
its design and style, exceptional in quality, using
fabrics and materials that are pure and natural.
We are proud to say that we have achieved our objectives
but constantly strive to reach new heights. We have
created and designed the most exquisite range of
top quality handcrafted babies linen. Incorporated
into the linen is a design or appliqué which is
made from sought-after natural bamboo products which
are hand dyed with superior colour fast dye, and
then crocheted or woven by women from previously
disadvantaged communities of South Africa.
As moms ourselves, we know the thrill and jubilation
of having a baby. We know that your newborn baby
is a precious gift. The items that we create are
designed with our kids, friend’s kids and your kids
in mind. We have high standards and it shows in
our products.
